ERBIL - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government announced on Friday that they had reached an agreement on the administration of Yezidi majority populated region of Sinjar.
Ahmed Mala Talal, a spokesperson for Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, said in a statement on Twitter that the two sides reached a "historic" deal on Sinjar.
Kadhimi "sponsored the historic agreement that strengthens the authority of the federal government in Sinjar in accordance with the constitution in terms of governance and security," Talal said.
According to the spokesperson, reaching the deal would mean an end to the presence of any other armed groups in Sinjar and it "paves the way for the full reconstruction of the city and the return of its distressed people, in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government."
The agreement came after a KRG delegation, headed by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed, paid a visit to Baghdad for talks in this regard.
