ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday received the United Nations’ Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis- Plasschaert, in Erbil to discuss the latest political and security developments.
Barzani during the meeting highlighted the positive contributions and role of the United Nations in Iraq and reiterated that the organization can help Iraq resolve its problems, overcome its difficulties, and stand up to the challenges that is currently facing, according to a press release from the presidency.
They also discussed the political process in the country and the current talks between Erbil and Baghdad on the pending issues and ways to resolve them.
The federal system in Iraq, the upcoming elections, confronting the Islamic State’s (IS) movements and other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed at the meeting, the press release added.
