ERBIL — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi reportedly has met with the commander of Iran’s Quds force, Ismail Qaani, in the recent days.
Izzat Shabandar, a Shia politician, wrote on Twitter that the Iranian top general was delivering a message to Kadhimi before his visit to the White House.
Shabandar did not elaborate on the details of the meeting, and there were no official meeting readouts available immediately.
Kadhimi is scheduled to fly to Washington on August 20 and meet with US President Donald Trump.
The US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue, which is hoped to outline the US military presence in Iraq, reportedly tops Kadhimi’s agenda in Washington.
