ERBIL - The UN said in a statement on Thursday that at least eight children under the age of five have recently died due to serious health problems in a Syrian camp housing thousands of families of the Islamic State (IS) fighters.
According to the statement, the children lost their lives between August 6 and 10 from malnutrition or dehydration from diarrhea, as cited by the Associated Press.
There have been no infections of coronavirus in the camp so far.
"Any child’s death is tragic," UNICEF said in a statement. "It is even more so when the death could have been averted."
