ERBIL — Top officials from Kurdistan Region have conveyed solidarity with the people of Lebanon after a deadly explosion in Beirut on Tuesday.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani offered condolences in a statement to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the explosion.
“The Kurdistan Region stands with the people of Lebanon during this difficult time,” he wrote in the statement.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also issued a statement to offer solidarity and support for the Lebanese people, saying that his government stands with the people of Lebanon during this difficult times.
According to a Lebanese health official who spoke to AFP, at least 73 people were killed and 3,700 were injured in the blast at Beirut port.
There are reports saying the explosion was caused by a fire at a warehouse in the port where up to 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored.
