ERBIL — Iran has sent the black box of the Ukrainian plane it had shot down earlier this year to France, an official said on Saturday.
Iran's deputy foreign minister for legal affairs, Mohsen Baharvand, confirmed that the black box had been sent to France on Friday.
He added that it will be read on Monday next week.
The plane was hit by two missiles on 8th January at the heights of military tensions between Iran and the United States, killing all the 176 people on board.
Iran initially denied responsibility for the downing of the plane. However, after western intelligence officials said they had evidence to prove Iranian army’s involvement, Tehran admitted that it had mistakenly shot the passenger plane.
Iran later stated that the Ukraine International Airlines flight was mistaken for a cruise missile.
