Iraqi Troops Kill Five IS Jihadists Outside Baghdad

ERBIL — At least five Islamic State (IS) militants were killed on Sunday during a security operation near capital Baghdad, Iraq.

Security Media Cell of Iraq’s Interior Ministry said in a statement that the operation was carried out in Maamra al-Zaidan village in southwest of Baghdad, where a group of IS jihadists were surrounded and killed.

It said the jihadists were discovered to be part of a suicide unit.

Two members of the Iraqi armed forces and intelligence were also killed during a fire exchange with the militants, the statement added.

US-led Global Coalition supported the operation with drones.
