Shia Parliamentary Bloc Urges Iraq to Appeal to UN on US Killing of Militia Leader

ERBIL — Fatih Alliance, the coalition of lawmakers supported by the Iran-backed Hashd al-Shaabi, has urged the Iraqi government to file a complaint to the United Nations over the US killing of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a prominent leader of the Hasdh al-Shaabi.

Muhandis was killed in an airstrike early in January when the US targeted Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani near the Baghdad airport.

Fatih Alliance said in a statement that the parliament should form committees to push the government and oversee the process of filing a complaint to the UN.

It has also called on the United Nations to take “brave” actions to prevent the US from “violating Iraq’s sovereignty”.
