ERBIL — Iraq’s Defense Ministry confirmed on Sunday that a senior general of the country had died of the novel coronavirus.
According to an official statement, Major General Murad Karim Salman al-Ruabiee, Director of Infantry Forces Department, had been infected with COVID-19 and lost his life on Sunday at the hospital.
Iraqi army’s chief of staff issued a separate statement to value Rubaiee’s service and offer condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The pandemic is spreading fast in Iraq with the people neglecting the health instructions.
According to official figures, 75,194 infections were recorded as of Sunday, 12 July. The virus has claimed 3,055 lives so far.
