Peshmerga Trainings Remain on Halt Due to Virus Outbreak: Official

ERBIL — The military trainings for the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan Region will remain suspended as the new coronavirus outbreak keeps growing, said an official.

Earlier in March this year, after the first cases of COVID-19 infections were reported, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) put the Peshmerga trainings on halt, including the trainings provided by the US-led Coalition.

Head of National Awareness Department at the Peshmerga Ministry, Major General Babakir Faqe, told BasNews that the trainings remain suspended up to this moment while the Coalition is ready to resume the mission when the situation with regards to the pandemic is suitable.

According to the latest updates provided by the KRG, 9,201 people have so far contracted the novel virus in Kurdistan while the death toll stands at 316.
