ERBIL — Hundreds of Darvish followers of Qadiriyya religious order clashed with the Iranian forces at the border crossing between Iran and Kurdistan Region on Thursday after being prevented from crossing the border under the coronavirus measures.
The Darvish followers, armed with swords, knifes, and daggers, reportedly clashed with the Iranian forces who had to fire warning shots to push them back. However, the Darvish followers pushed through the border and forcefully crossed the border.
Preliminary reports said there were multiple casualties among the Darvishs and the Iranian forces.
The Darvish followers of Qadiriyya Islamic order are attempting to reach Sulaymaniyah in Kurdistan Region and attend the funeral of their late leader, Sheikh Mohammed Abdulkarim Kasnazani.
BasNews has learned that the large violent crowd has now crossed into Kurdistan Region without any official procedures.
There have been no official statements by Kurdistan Region as the issue is developing.
