Kurdistan Village Evacuated Overnight as Turkey-PKK Clash Intensifies

ERBIL — A village in the border areas of Zakho district, Duhok province, was evacuated overnight on Saturday due to the ongoing fierce confrontations between Turkey and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an official said on Sunday.

Turkey has recently launched a large-scale operation against the PKK inside Kurdistan Region territories. The armed conflict has so far left at least six civilians killed and several others injured.

Batifa Mayor Dilsher Abdulsattar told BasNews that the conflict has spread panic among the villagers in the border areas, forcing many to flee their homes in fear of bombardments on the villages.

“Therefore, residents of Shilane village, near Batifa, evacuated their village overnight yesterday,” the official added, noting that only the men return to attend their farms during daytime.

“The village of Banke is also under threat. It is possible that the residents of Banke village also flee.”
