ERBIL - More than 70 Dunam of wheat farms have so far been burned to ashes in Zummar district of Nineveh province, an official revealed on Sunday.
Speaking to BasNews, head of local administration in Zummar, Ahmed Jaafar, pointed out that the majority of the farms belong to the Kurdish farmers.
"So far, 72 Dunam of wheat farms have been burned in Zummar," Jaafar said, adding that the motive behind the fire incidents is not yet clear.
The Kurdish farmers are not able to do the harvesting easily due to the continuous fire incidents, he said.
Several similar incidents have lately been reported in the areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad, for which the Islamic State (IS) has remained the main suspect.
