ERBIL - Unidentified armed men on Wednesday early morning abducted a couple of farmers in the disputed Kurdish town of Khanaqin, Diyala province.
The incident took place in the village of Tal Naqar where unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Islamic State (IS), kidnapped two farmers, Arif Adil, head of the local administration in Jabara town, told BasNews, noting that the two were brothers.
The siblings were driving harvesters working on their farms before they were abducted, he added.
An investigation has begun into the incident while the fate of the abductees has so far remained unclear, according to the official.
