US Secretary of State, Iraqi PM Discuss ‘Strategic Dialogues’

ERBIL — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday held a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to discuss a range of issues topped by bilateral ties.

“Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo spoke today with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to discuss Iraq’s economic crisis as well as the upcoming US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue,” State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a short statement.

“Secretary Pompeo urged Prime Minister Kadhimi to pursue real reforms as he works with international institutions to provide financial assistance to Iraq,” Ortagus added.

Washington and Baghdad are expected to kick off strategic dialogues to discuss the future of the US forces in Iraq after pro-Iran Shia MPs passed a non-biding resolution last January to ask the government to oust the US forces.
