ERBIL — Iraq’s counter-terrorism unit carried out an operation on Tuesday in Diyala province where it killed at least four Islamic State (IS) militants.
Backed by airpower, the ground elite forces also destroyed six IS hideouts in the remote areas of Khanaqin, a Kurdish town disputed between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government of Iraq, said Nihad Mohammed, a spokesperson for Diyala police.
Earlier the day, BasNews reported an IS attack which again targeted the transmission towers in north of Diyala province.
The group is seemingly reorganizing its members as it has recently stepped up the hit-and-run attacks on the Iraqi forces in the provinces of Kirkuk, Diyala, Salahaddin, Nineveh, and Anbar.
