ERBIL - Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially invited Iraq's new Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to visit Moscow, a statement said on Thursday.
Kadhimi on Thursday received the Russian Ambassador to Iraq Maxim Maksimov in Baghdad where the Russian envoy conveyed Putin's letter of congratulations to the premier on his appointment and formation of the new cabinet.
The Iraqi prime minister reaffirmed his support to further strengthen the relations between Baghdad and Moscow, a statement by his office said.
During the meeting, Kadhimi sent an official letter to the Russian president and invited him to pay a visit to Baghdad, the press release added.
